Ground Support Equipment

Indispensable for the operation of civil and military aircraft, support equipment comprises all the equipment used on the ground for routine maintenance or mission preparation. This is one of Turgis Gaillard’s areas of expertisedesigning, manufacturing and maintaining this equipment for Europe’s leading aircraft manufacturers.

Sefiam 1602

Sefiam 1602

The Sefiam 1602 is a weapon loader designed to place external loads under the wings and fuselage of combat aircraft, or in the weapon bays of stealth aircraft:

  • air combat missiles,
  • cruise missiles and anti-ship missiles,
  • guided bombs, conventional bombs,
  • auxiliary fuel tanks,
  • laser designation pods,
  • IMINT or SIGINT reconnaissance pods.

This electric, radio-controlled loader is designed to outperform previous technologies since it is:

  • safer: thanks to the remote control, the load crew chief supervising the maneuver is close to the loading point;
  • quieter: thanks to the electric motor, load crew chiefs no longer have to shout out instructions during maneuvers:
  • designed for use in confined spaces, sheltered from bad weather, CBRN threats or in the hangar of an aircraft carrier, unlike equipment using internal combustion engines. The Sefiam 1602 is also more respectful of the environment, since it emits no exhaust gases.
Sefiam 1602

The Sefiam 1602 accelerates the pace of maneuvers, reduces manpower requirements and rationalizes the use of combat aircraft, UAVs and helicopters: less time on the ground for weapons reloading means more time in the air carrying out the mission.

Support systems for combat aircraft

Turgis Gaillard provides most of the support systems needed to operate combat aircraft, UAVs and helicopters:

  • runway equipment: power units, access ladders, guards, etc.
  • weapon transport and loading: weapon transport vehicles, loading trucks, etc.
  • maintenance tools: aircraft lifting equipment, leak test benches, cabin pressure control, structural component disassembly racks, anti-ice injection systems, aircraft fuel system devices, etc.

Turgis Gaillard systems are used on Dassault Aviation’s Rafale and Mirage 2000 fighter jets, as well as on Safran’s Patroller UAV.

Support systems for civil aircraft

In the civil sector, Turgis Gaillard works mainly on business aircraft, producing equipment for maintenance operations, ground power units (GPUs), etc.

Support systems for special mission aircraft

Turgis Gaillard designs and manufactures specific equipment for the maintenance of civil aircraft used for ISR (intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance) or maritime patrol missions, such as tools for the removal of SIGINT and IMINT sensors, radars, etc.

The company also produces equipment for the Airbus A400M military transport aircraft, such as the tooling required for landing gear installation and removal.

This equipment is generally produced on a one-off basis or in very small production runs.

Production and design resources

Equipment is manufactured from drawings or developed according to specifications, using the company’s own resources:

  • design office
  • boilermaking workshop
  • assembly shop

Teams provide through-life support for the systems produced, either in the Albaret-Sainte-Marie facility or at users’ bases.

Certain technical assistance and training services can also be provided.

Turgis Gaillard’s resources in France are complemented by those of its subsidiary Turgis Gaillard India, based in Nagpur, India, to support combat aircraft in the Indo-Pacific region.
